Sumant Sinha is the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of ReNew, one of India's largest clean energy companies listed on Nasdaq. A global entrepreneur and internationally recognised thought leader, Sumant founded ReNew in 2011 with a vision to drive a just and inclusive transition to net-zero energy.
Sumant is a global business voice shaping the trajectory of modern enterprises and positioning India at the forefront of the global energy transition. Under his leadership, ReNew has built one of the most diversified portfolios in the sector-spanning solar, wind, and battery storage, with a pipeline of ~28 GW. His vision and execution have established ReNew as a benchmark for scale, innovation, and strategic growth in India.
Sumant co-chairs the World Economic Forum's Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders, the largest CEO-led alliance on climate change globally. In 2025, he was elected Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA)-lndia's premier institution for all branches of science and technology. This honour recognises his pioneering contributions to research, innovation, and socio-economic impact in advancing clean energy and sustainable enterprises He is also a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE)-lndia's pre-eminent institution bringing together engineers across disciplines to advance innovation and technology. In addition, he serves on the Board of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), a leading platform strengthening India-US economic ties and strategic collaboration. Formerly, Sumant was Chair of the Board of RMI, one of the world's foremost think tanks on zero-carbon future.
Sumant is the founding co-chair of the Bharat Climate Forum, which is playing an integral role in positioning India as a global leader in clean-tech manufacturing. He is also a member of the Ministry of Power committee charged with accelerating low-carbon energy adoption.
In 2022-23, Sumant served as President of ASSOCHAM-the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India-one of India's apex industry bodies. He previously chaired the Confederation of Indian Industry's (CII) Northern Region Council and currently serves as Chair of the CII Energy Transition and Hydrogen Council.
Sumant is a regular speaker at various international forums, such as the World Economic Forum, United Nations General Assembly, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change - Conference of the Parties (UNFCCC COP), Climate Week NY, and leading global universities. He is the author of Fossil Free, a book focusing on India's future-ready energy transition.
He is a board member at IIT Delhi and has served on the boards of IIM Calcutta and Columbia University. He has been recognised as a distinguished alumnus by each of these institutions. As an industry leader, he reflects scale, fosters industry-academia collaboration, and nurtures entrepreneurship.
For his pioneering work, Sumant has received several recognitions, including Forbes Global Sustainability Leader 2025, TIMEl00 Most Influential Climate Leaders 2024, the 2022 USISPF Global Leadership Award, ET Energy's Chief Executive of the Year 2022, and EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2017. He is the first Indian business leader to be recognised as an SDG Pioneer by the UN.
